I know not everyone has put in their share but the majority so far has picked the first choice; that all posts are open information unless it’s striked out.
The only way that the post would become private that isn’t striked out is if it originated from a thought post. And I know that may be confusing because why would others track thought posts that you aren’t involved in. In which case, you could either ask the people involved if it was a thought post or find the original post and see if it was tagged as a thought post.
So think of it this way, the dashboard is basically one big giant room that all of our characters hang out in. You can’t say something aloud and not expect somebody else to hear it. Therefore anything said would be open information that anyone could hear. Thought posts are kind of like you whispering to someone else. Somebody on the other side of the room can not hear it, therefore it is private.
So:
- All information in posts are open for the community to take.
- The only private parts of the post are what is striked out.
- Read more’s are always private.
- Information that happened in paras are basically private unless the people involved say something to your character about it.
- Don’t god mod.
- Play your characters as written.
The last three are just reminders.
Private conversations, which are private and which are open. I know it’s a confusing subject for everyone. Some think that everything between two characters is private and others think the complete opposite. I know some things I’d like to keep private, as in between my character and the one they are talking to. But I do have times where I want my character to know certain things that happen so I can develop them more. And I am sure others feel the same exact way.
Now it would be very difficult and somewhat of a waste to say whether a conversation is private or not is based on the tags you have. Like tagging something as ‘private’, for example, for a conversation just between the two characters. Because what would it be tagged if it were an open conversation? And while it is an open conversation, people may get confused and think their character is aloud to reply to other replies instead of the main post.
It sucks that you’d think that every single conversation is private because that’s boring. Your characters would be extremely clueless as to what is going on. Basically like they’re locked up in their rooms and have no idea what’s going on in the outside world.
I’ve come to two different conclusions:
- Every conversation is open, meaning the information given is free knowledge for the world to take. The downside to that, nothing would be private unless it is striked out.*
- Every conversation is private. The only way your character not involved in that conversation could know is if you ask whichever player said the information you want your character to know.
Obviously, or at least to me, I prefer the first choice.
So just reply to this which choice you like best and I’ll post later on what the majority chose.
*This is how it was, basically, for the first rp I was in and it worked well.
